FLIRT

"Flinker Leichter Innovativer Regional Triebzug" (Fast Light Innovative Regional Train)

Nickname for the RABe 52x series of EMU manufactered by Stadler for SBB. The FLIRT is a derivative of the GTW series of EMUs.

Current Versions

  • Regio-S-Bahn Basel: 15 kV AC, Switzerland and Germany - 30 units ordered for service beginning in 2006 - RABe 521
  • Stadtbahn Zug: 15 kV AC, Switzerland only - 12 units ordered for service beginning in 2004 - RABe 523
  • Future Versions

  • EuroTHURBO: 15 kV AC, Switzerland and Germany - 9 units ordered for service beginning in 2006 - RABe 526 65x
  • TILO: equipped for 15 kV AC and 3 kV DC (Italy) - 19 units ordered for service beginning in 2007
  • Regio-S-Bahn Basel - Mulhouse: equipped for 15 kV AC and 25 kV AC (France) - 12 units ordered for service beginning in 2008
  • SOB - Südostbahn: 15 kV AC version with only four doors per side (rather than 8 as in the other versions) - 11 units ordered in early 2005 - delivery dates not yet known
  • Nordost-Hessen-Netz: 15 kV AC version - total 20 units (14 units of a 3-car version and 6 units of the standard 4-car version) ordered for service starting end of 2006Press Release
